A pop-by isn't a sales call. You have about a minute, and the goal is simple: be remembered, and make it easy for them to send a family your way.
The 60-second drop-off
- Say who you are. Your name and your community, every time. "Hi, I'm Jamie with Larkmere Senior Living."
- Share one piece of news. An opening, a new memory care program, respite stays, an open house. One thing, not five.
- Make one clear ask. "If you have a patient who can't go home alone, call me directly. My cell is on the card."
- Leave the treat and the card, and go. The card does the remembering for you.
Lines you can borrow
When you have openings: "We have two assisted living apartments open this month. If a family needs to move quickly, I can get them in for a tour this week."
After a referral: "Thank you for thinking of us last month. The family is settled in, and we're glad you sent them."
When there's no news: "Just popping by to say thank you. We're here whenever someone needs us."
With an education card: "We made this for discharge planners. It's a quick checklist for when a patient might need assisted living instead of going home."
What to skip
- Don't interrupt. Ask the front desk when is a good time. If your contact is busy, leave the treat with a note and go.
- Never discuss residents or patients by name in hallways, waiting rooms, or at the front desk.
- Don't overstay. If they don't have questions, wrap it up.
- Check the gift policy. Some hospitals and offices limit what vendors can bring. A card and a shareable snack is usually fine, but ask.
After the visit
- Log it the same day: who you saw and what you left.
- If they mention a possible referral, follow up that afternoon.
- Pick next month's card while you're thinking about it.
